Jung says that deep within each one of us, male and female, lives the archetype of the true warrior. When we are in touch with this archetype, we are aggressive in the good sense of the word: full of energy and courage to solve problems, confront difficult situations head-on, and take decisive action. Self-discipline and certainty flow naturally from within. We are ready to be 100% committed to a vision and purpose that is bigger than ourselves, and to persevere in the face of obstacles and setbacks. Our commitments guide our lives, rather than our fears of failure or rejection. We are loyal to our leaders, our fellow warriors, and ourselves.
But when we are cut off from the warrior within, we lose touch with our personal power. Faced with difficult decisions, we hesitate, unsure of ourselves. When the situation calls for decisive action, we procrastinate and find ways to avoid. We are self-indulgent, lacking the courage and inner discipline to endure pain or hardship. We find it impossible to say “No”, to end a relationship that is destructive, to fire an incompetent employee, to discipline our children. We feel unworthy, and sacrifice ourselves for others. Or we play the Hero, always looking for ego-gratification in others’ praise and admiration.
For thousands of years, in traditional societies East and West--from Japan and China to India, Greece, and Native America--the archetype of the true warrior was honored as a path to full self-actualization. Today, however, the traditional rituals to initiate us into the way of the warrior have been lost or fragmented—and the wise elders who understood these traditions are mostly gone. In movies, TV programs, and the archetype of the true warrior has been confused with the bully, the killing machine, the grandstanding Hero, the self-sacrificing martyr. We are left with conflicting feelings towards our own inner warrior—and without a way to experience and express this deep aspect of our psyche.
Accessing Your Inner Warrior provides you with a powerful opportunity to draw forth from within yourself and express the ancient and honorable archetype of the true warrior. The workshop supports you in experiencing the qualities of the true warrior at a very deep level, and by living these qualities fully, discovering how to integrate them fully into your daily life.
Accessing The Inner Warrior is also an amazingly accurate mirror in which you can see exactly how you live your everyday life. As the workshop unfolds, major life issues will come to the surface for you to confront and deal with. For some people, the main issue is commitment—the willingness to persevere, not give up, in the face of setbacks, difficulties, and even pain. For others, it’s honesty and integrity—the courage to speak the truth, even when speaking the truth means the possibility of rejection or becoming an outcast. For still others, what surfaces is the struggle between cowardice—giving in to fear—and courage, the willingness to risk, even to risk death for what you believe in. And for still others, the issue brought up is trust—trust of yourself, trust of other people, trust in life itself. Whatever the issue that is evoked, you’ll be challenged to face up to yourself in a deep and meaningful way.
The Inner Warrior Workshop is also an exercise in leadership and teamwork. Throughout the game, you will be presented with opportunities to lead—and opportunities to support and follow the leadership of others. The game will test you, and expose for you to see clearly your strengths and weaknesses as a leader and as a member of the team.
Participation in Accessing Your Inner Warrior calls for a high level of personal commitment and willingness to participate. The workshop does not, however, require a high level of physical fitness or physical contact. Men and women from 18 to 80 years old, from all walks of life, have participated fully and created value for themselves.
